Upcoming price changes to Web Hosting

The internet community was surprised on Friday this week when cPanel, the maker of the most popular web hosting panel indicated that they will be discontinuing their old pricing model and moving to a more expensive, consumption based usage model.

For many years Real World and Oxygen have provided cost effective web hosting using the cPanel platform. We offer a range of services including DNS, email hosting, PHP Version Selection, CloudFlare integration and LetsEncrypt SSL Certificates. Many of our reseller customers also leverage dedicated cPanel licenses or reseller licenses as part of the products.

The changes to cPanel pricing have increased the base cost of two key components, namely CloudLinux (the operating system we use to provide secure, flexible hosting for our customers) and cPanel/WHM.

While we still believe that cPanel and CloudLinux provide some of the best options, solutions and products on the market for our customers needs when it comes to web hosting, our cost to provide hosting has risen by as much as 400%. As a result we will be forced to deliver a small increase to the pricing of some of our lower or included hosting plans. While we are still working out the impact, the increases will be between $0.60 and $1 per month per cPanel account for affected customers.

The new pricing model takes effect gradually between now and September 2019.
