Over the weekend we saw the biggest change to the .au domain name space. The operational control and management for .au has been migrated to Afilias, who currently manage over 25 of the global Top Level Domains (TLDs).
The transition means that domain owners can now register domains for a range of time periods (from 1 year to 5 years) and benefit from reduced costs. For the first time in the history of the .au domain, there is now also domain name servers in every state and territory of Australia, which will greatly improve the browsing and access speed to domains hosted within the .au space.
The project itself was the largest of its kind undertaken anywhere in the world, with 3.1+ million domain names migrated with no outage or downtime, ahead of schedule. For more information you can read about it on Afilias’ blog post or the press release from auDA, the independent body that oversees the management of the .au name space.
To celebrate, Real World are permanently reducing the price on our 2 year .com.au and .net.au domain registrations and renewals to $45 including GST, meaning there has never been a better time to get a .au domain for your business or organisation!
